Bihar BJP MP Threatened with Death and Extortion
BJP MP Pradeep Kumar Singh has received a fresh death threat, with the assailant demanding a hefty sum of money. The latest incident occurred on September 1, 2024, when Singh received a threatening message on his mobile phone. The message, sent from a Nepalese number, warned of a violent attack involving grenades, bombs, and bullets if Singh did not pay ₹10 lakh.
According to the complaint filed by Singh at the Nagar Police Station in Araria, he received two phone calls from the number +9779819067748 on August 27, 2024, around 1:51 PM. Singh, however, did not answer the calls. Shortly thereafter, he received a threatening message from the same number. The message, allegedly from someone named Vinod Rathore, stated: “This is your final warning. Release my brother Dinesh Rathore from jail and send ₹10 lakh to the jail gate. Otherwise, we will attack you with grenades, bombs, and bullets anywhere in Araria.”
Singh’s complaint highlights that he saw the threatening message on September 1, 2024. He further explained that he has been a target of threats from criminals associated with Dinesh Rathore for some time. Rathore, a notorious criminal currently imprisoned, has previously threatened Singh, adding to the MP’s concerns about his safety.
In response to the complaint, Nagar Police Station filed an FIR on September 2, 2024, under case number 459/24. The police have launched an investigation to track down the source of the threat. The new threat is particularly alarming given Singh’s previous encounter with similar threats. Back on May 17, 2013, during a visit to Patna, Singh had also received death threats. At that time, the Patna Kotwali Police had arrested a suspect who admitted to issuing the threats on the orders of Dinesh Rathore.
The latest threat purportedly from Rathore’s brother underscores the ongoing risks faced by Singh. The MP has expressed his concern over the persistent threats and is seeking protection while the investigation continues.
Pradeep Kumar Singh is a prominent Indian politician who has been a member of the Indian Parliament since 2009. He successfully retained his seat in the 2019 Indian general election. Singh also served as a member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 2005.
This situation highlights the challenges faced by public figures in dealing with threats and the need for robust measures to ensure their safety. As the investigation progresses, authorities will be working to ensure that those responsible for the threats are apprehended and held accountable.
