Ashwin withdraws from India Test squad due to family emergency.

Ravichandran Ashwin has withdrawn from the Rajkot Test and the Indian squad with immediate effect due to a family medical emergency.

Ravichandran Ashwin has withdrawn from the ongoing 3rd Test against England in Rajkot and the Indian squad due to a family emergency, as confirmed by the BCCI in a late-night release on Friday. Ashwin’s decision comes after he picked his 500th Test wicket earlier in the day, making him the second-fastest to achieve this milestone. The BCCI expressed its full support for Ashwin and his family during this challenging time and requested privacy for them.

Ashwin’s absence leaves the Indian bowling attack depleted, adding to the team’s woes as they are already missing Virat Kohli due to personal reasons and KL Rahul due to injury. The seriousness of the situation is evident from the tone of the BCCI’s statement. The board assured continued assistance and support for Ashwin and his family while expressing appreciation for the understanding of fans and media.

Earlier in the day, Ashwin had spoken about his father’s support throughout his cricketing journey, mentioning how his father’s health had been affected by the stress of watching him play. In a separate interview with former India captain Kumble, Ashwin had discussed the difficult phase of his career in 2018-2019, describing it as a “bottomless pit” after facing setbacks and injuries.
