“Babar Azam Makes History: Quickest to 10,000 T20 Runs, Overtakes Kohli and Gayle”

Pakistan’s Babar Azam upstaged Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle to become the quickest batter to 10,000 runs in T20s.

“In a remarkable feat, Babar Azam, the former Pakistan captain, has set a new record by becoming the fastest batsman to reach 10,000 runs in T20 cricket. This milestone was achieved during the sixth match of the thrilling Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 season, where Karachi Kings faced off against Peshawar Zalmi at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. Following their defeat to Quetta Gladiators in the PSL 2024 opener, Babar’s Peshawar Zalmi took on his former team Karachi Kings in a highly anticipated encounter.”

Babar Azam marked his half-century with a six off South Africa’s Tabraiz Shamsi, further enhancing his already illustrious career. Surpassing batting legends such as Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle, and David Warner, Babar now stands as the quickest to reach 10,000 runs in the T20 format. Achieving this remarkable milestone in just 271 innings, the former Pakistan captain outpaced Kohli, who reached the milestone in 299 innings, Gayle in 285 innings, and Warner in 303 innings.

In the opening moments of the match, opener Saim Ayub faced an early dismissal on the very first ball bowled by Shoaib Malik. However, Peshawar Zalmi’s captain, Babar Azam, stepped up to the crease and delivered an entertaining innings, scoring 72 runs off 51 balls. Babar’s innings, which included seven boundaries and one six, proved to be a record-breaking performance against Shan Masood’s Karachi Kings in the 20-over clash held in Lahore. Following Babar’s impressive knock, valuable contributions from Rovman Powell (39) and Asif Ali (23) propelled Peshawar Zalmi to a total of 154 runs in 19.5 overs. Mir Hamza and Hasan Ali of Karachi Kings claimed three wickets each, accounting for a total of six dismissals.

Babar Azam joins an elite group as the 13th player to achieve the milestone of 10,000 runs in T20 cricket, solidifying his status as one of the premier batsmen in the shortest format. Additionally, he stands as the first cricketer to surpass the 3,000-run mark in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), further underlining his dominance in domestic T20 leagues.

Notably, Babar becomes only the second batsman, following Shoaib Malik, to reach the 10,000-run landmark in T20 cricket. Malik, with over 13,159 runs, occupies the second spot on the list of highest run-scorers in T20s. Topping the charts is the legendary West Indies batsman Chris Gayle, who boasts an astonishing tally of 14,562 runs in T20 cricket, setting the benchmark for excellence in the format.
