Following initial setbacks, negotiations for seat-sharing among Congress and its allies within the INDIA bloc have regained momentum across various states, setting the stage for strategic alliances in the upcoming elections. Notable developments include significant progress in West Bengal, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Gujarat.

After Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee’s initial announcement of contesting alone, discussions have resumed between Congress and TMC, signalling a potential alliance in West Bengal. Similarly, amidst internal strife in Maharashtra, Congress has aligned with Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray’s Shiv Sena and Sharad Pawar’s NCP, with Rahul Gandhi intervening to resolve disputes over crucial seats.

In Uttar Pradesh, a consensus has been reached between Congress and Samajwadi Party, with Congress set to contest 17 seats and Samajwadi Party 63. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra played a pivotal role in facilitating the agreement, underscoring her influence within the party.

Delhi witnesses discussions favouring an alliance between Congress and AAP, with the former likely to contest three out of seven Lok Sabha constituencies. Meanwhile, in Gujarat, Rahul Gandhi’s intervention secured Bharuch, a sentimental seat for Congress, despite AAP’s initial interest.

Additionally, key figures such as Milind Deora, Baba Siddique, and Ashok Chavan have made notable shifts in Maharashtra’s political landscape, reflecting the fluidity of alliances in the region.

However, challenges persist, particularly in finalizing seat-sharing agreements and accommodating smaller parties like Prakash Ambedkar’s faction in Maharashtra.

The developments underscore Congress’s proactive stance in forging alliances and mobilizing opposition against the BJP-led NDA, with spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi lauding the party’s efforts in leading the #INDIAAlliance from the forefront.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, the upcoming announcements regarding seat-sharing arrangements are poised to shape the electoral landscape significantly, setting the stage for a fiercely contested election season.
