Former Chilean President Sebastian Pinera Dies in Helicopter Crash

Former Chilean President Sebastian Pinera, 74, died in a helicopter crash in Lago Ranco, southern Chile, on Tuesday. Interior Minister Carolina Toha confirmed the death of the ex-president, who served from 2010 to 2014 and again from 2018 to 2022.

Pinera’s first presidency witnessed rapid economic growth and decreased unemployment, while his second term, from 2018 to 2022, faced violent protests over inequality, prompting a commitment to draft a new constitution.
