The Gujarat Giants, opting to bat first, put up a formidable total of 190/7, thanks to a solid 121-run partnership between Beth Mooney and Dayalan Hemalatha. Mooney continued her rich vein of form, hitting a swift 66 off 35 balls, while Hemalatha scored a valuable 74 off 40 balls, marking her first WPL half-century. Despite a middle-order collapse, a late surge from Bharti Fulmali, who scored 21 off 13 balls, helped the Giants set a challenging target.

The Mumbai Indians began their chase on a positive note, with openers Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Matthews laying down a solid foundation. However, the middle order stumbled, losing quick wickets and putting the chase in jeopardy. Yastika Bhatia’s effort of 49 runs off 36 balls was the highlight of the early innings, but her dismissal left Mumbai in a tough spot.

It was then that Harmanpreet Kaur stepped up, delivering an innings that will be etched in WPL history. With 10 fours and 5 sixes, her explosive batting turned the game on its head, decimating the Giants’ bowling attack. The match came down to the wire, with Mumbai needing 13 runs in the final over. Kaur’s experience shone through as she hit a six off the first ball from Ashleigh Gardner and kept her cool to win the game on the last ball.

This victory not only secured Mumbai Indians a spot in the playoffs but also propelled them to the top of the WPL points table, with five wins in seven matches. The Gujarat Giants, however, find themselves at the bottom, struggling with just two points from six games.
