Chennai Super Kings extended their unbeaten run in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) with a convincing 63-run victory over Gujarat Titans in the seventh match of the tournament, held on Tuesday in Chennai.

In the match played at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, Gujarat Titans won the toss and elected to field first against the formidable Chennai Super Kings, who have clinched the IPL title five times. The young batsman, Rachin Ravindra, initiated his innings on a positive note by consistently finding the boundaries during the powerplay overs.

Progressing swiftly towards the 40-run mark, Ravindra maintained his aggressive approach until a sharp stumping by Gujarat Titans’ wicketkeeper, Wriddhiman Saha, provided the visitors with their initial breakthrough.

While Ajinkya Rahane struggled to find his rhythm during his time at the crease, Chennai Super Kings’ captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, managed to accelerate the scoring rate and keep the scoreboard ticking for the home team. Eventually, Rahane fell victim to a clever delivery by Tamil Nadu-based spinner R Sai Kishore, resulting in another stumping by Saha.

As Ruturaj Gaikwad approached the 40-run mark, his innings was abruptly ended by a short delivery from Spencer Johnson, resulting in an edge caught by the wicketkeeper. However, Shivam Dube wasted no time in finding his rhythm, launching consecutive sixes at the start of his innings. He continued to aggressively attack the bowlers, maintaining the momentum into the final overs.

Dube reached his fifty in a remarkably short period but fell victim to Rashid Khan’s bowling as he attempted to capitalize on the death overs.

Despite Dube’s departure, Sameer Rizvi made an impactful debut in yellow by smashing two maximums off the first three deliveries he faced. However, his cameo came to an end in the following over when he was dismissed by Mohit Sharma. With contributions from Dube, Gaikwad, and Rizvi, Chennai Super Kings set a formidable target of 207 runs for the Gujarat Titans to chase.

Mumbai Indians to face Sunrisers Hydrabad, looking forward to putting behind the loss of the first match.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI) are poised to clash in their second encounter of IPL 2024 on March 27 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. Both teams, SRH and MI, are yet to secure points in the tournament, having suffered defeats in their respective opening matches, with the outcomes decided in the final over.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) faced a challenging defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on March 23, as KKR’s Harshit Rana delivered a stunning performance in the final over. Despite the aggressive batting efforts from Shahbaz Ahmed and Heinrich Klaasen, Rana’s remarkable bowling prowess led to the dismissal of both players, ultimately clinching a narrow 4-run victory for KKR.

In a highly anticipated match, Mumbai Indians (MI), under the leadership of Hardik Pandya, suffered a disappointing defeat to Gujarat Titans (GT), the team Pandya had previously captained for two seasons. The encounter saw Pandya face off against his former team, with the match coming down to a thrilling final over bowled by Umesh Yadav.

With Mumbai needing 19 runs to secure victory, Pandya took charge, displaying his aggressive batting style. Despite managing to score 10 runs off the first two deliveries, Pandya remained steadfast in his approach. However, Mumbai’s hopes were dashed as they lost two crucial wickets, including Pandya’s dismissal, resulting in a heartbreaking defeat by a margin of 6 runs.
