Jaiswal Scorches Anderson, Makes History with Second Double, Joins Kohli in Elite Club

Team India’s dynamic opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal, electrified the crowds on Sunday with his second consecutive double-century in Test cricket during Day 4 of the match in Rajkot against England. Despite battling back spasms the previous day, Jaiswal returned to the crease with determination, dismantling the English bowling attack with a heroic effort.

Jaiswal’s remarkable innings saw him reach the double-century mark in just 231 balls, punctuated by 14 fours and 10 sixes. After his unbeaten 104-run stint on the third day evening, Jaiswal, eager to continue, quickly padded up at the start of Day 4 as Shubman Gill and Kuldeep Yadav resumed the Indian innings. Following Gill’s unfortunate run-out on 91, Jaiswal stepped in and displayed the same resilience he showed at the start of the innings, methodically rebuilding.

Despite England’s relentless bowling efforts, Jaiswal remained steadfast, gradually accumulating runs as the pitch showed minimal signs of wear. As the innings progressed, Jaiswal found his rhythm, accelerating his scoring rate with calculated aggression. His assault on the English bowlers was highlighted by three consecutive sixes off James Anderson’s over, showcasing his dominance.

By lunch, Jaiswal had amassed an unbeaten 149 runs off 189 balls, swiftly reaching his 150-run milestone post-break. His aggressive intent continued as he surpassed the strike rate of 80, effortlessly finding boundaries to reach his second double-century in rapid succession, a feat achieved by only a select few in Indian cricket history.

This milestone places Jaiswal in elite company, joining Virat Kohli as the only other Indian batsman to score two double centuries in consecutive Tests of a series, a distinction previously held solely by Vinoo Mankad, albeit not achieved in successive Tests. Jaiswal’s remarkable feat solidifies his status as one of India’s most promising talents in modern cricket.
