In Bihar, massive fraud has been discovered in the recent BPSC teacher recruitment process. Thousands of teaching positions were filled under the TRE-2 scheme, including 2,400 posts in Samastipur. Despite biometric checks for 95% of the candidates, fake recruits were appointed instead of the actual selected candidates.
The scam came to light about eight months after the recruitment process concluded, thanks to media reports. The education department is now in turmoil as they investigate the issue. Sources suggest that not only department staff but also some teachers involved in the counseling process might be complicit in the fraud.
Here’s how the scam worked: After passing the BPSC exam, candidates had their biometric data recorded. However, some department officials used the roll numbers and IDs of non-joining candidates to issue fake appointments. A closer look at the admit cards and joining letters reveals discrepancies, such as mismatched signatures and blurred QR codes on the fake documents.

It’s believed that two to three dozen fake teachers might have been hired across Samastipur, having paid between 1 and 1.5 million rupees each for their positions. These individuals were even trained and are currently receiving salaries.
Kumar Satyam, the DPO (Establishment) of the education department, admitted he learned about the fraud through the media and promised a thorough investigation. He noted that while 95% of the appointed teachers have had their biometric data collected, some are still pending. The key question now is how such a significant fraud occurred despite the rigorous checks and what actions will be taken against those responsible.
