Mizoram Police Seize Over 10 kg of Crystal Meth Worth Rs 31 Crore

In a joint operation with the CID (SB) and Champhai DEF, Mizoram police seized 10 packets of suspected crystal methamphetamine in the Melbuk area of Champhai district. The haul, weighing 10.385 kilograms, is estimated to be worth Rs 31.115 crore. Acting on credible intelligence, two individuals, Malsawmzuali (38) and Lalchhandama (19), both from Lengpui village, were arrested for possession of the contraband substance.

The crystal meth was confiscated under the Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. This operation highlights the increasing battle against drug trafficking in Mizoram, which is identified as a crucial transit route for narcotics. Mizoram’s Director General of Police (DGP), Anil Shukla, emphasized the state’s vulnerability to drug trafficking during a recent training session on the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

This significant seizure underscores the efforts of Mizoram police in combating drug trafficking, a growing concern in the region. The joint operation led to the arrest of two individuals, and authorities are now focused on investigating the origin and intended destination of the seized crystal meth.
