Mohammed Shami to Undergo Ankle Surgery, Set to miss IPL 2024

Mohammed Shami will remain absent from cricket for the foreseeable future, as he is now expected to miss the upcoming edition of the IPL.

His absence is due to a left ankle injury, which he sustained while experiencing difficulties during his follow-through. Shami’s last appearance was in the ODI World Cup final against Australia in Ahmedabad.

During the World Cup, Shami encountered pain and had to resort to injections to manage it. Despite this challenge, he played a pivotal role in India’s impressive performance in the 50-over tournament, emerging as the highest wicket-taker with 24 dismissals.

Initially considered a minor issue, the persistent discomfort prompted the National Cricket Academy’s medical team to seek advice from overseas specialists. Although Shami was initially part of the squad for the two-Test series in South Africa in November, he had to withdraw due to his injury.

His absence will be keenly felt by the Gujarat Titans, led by Shubman Gill, especially considering the earlier loss of Hardik Pandya to the Mumbai Indians.
