Significant Boost to Rail Facilities in Northeast: Udalguri Railway Station to Undergo Transformation

Assam: In a major development for rail infrastructure in the Northeast, the interim Budget 2024-25 has allocated Rs 10,369 crores for railway projects. A notable beneficiary of this allocation is the Udalguri railway station in Assam, set to undergo a substantial facelift under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) with an estimated cost of Rs. 14.31 crore.

As part of the ABSS, a comprehensive redevelopment plan has been outlined for 60 stations in the Northeast, aiming to provide world-class amenities and facilities. Udalguri railway station, situated on the Rangiya – Murkongselek section under the Rangiya Division of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), will witness the extension of its existing station building.

The revamped structure is designed to feature an enhanced facade and will include modern facilities such as retiring rooms and waiting areas for passenger convenience. The redevelopment plan prioritizes inclusivity with the incorporation of Divyangjan-friendly ramps, upgraded toilet facilities, two lifts, and a 5-meter-wide Foot Over Bridge for improved accessibility.

Other components of the project include separate toilet blocks for male and female passengers, enhanced parking facilities, and beautification of the circulating area. Platforms will be equipped with shelters and resurfaced with materials like marble stone and tiles, ensuring passenger comfort. Entry and exit paths will be developed to facilitate improved accessibility.

Tenders have already been awarded for the outlined works, with the foundation work for the new station building already in progress. Simultaneously, additional passenger amenities, such as Coach Guidance Boards, Train Information Display Systems, platform extensions, and easy-access water booths for Divyangjan, are also underway.

The anticipated upgrade of Udalguri railway station is poised to generate new opportunities, fostering employment, business prospects, and providing enhanced travel experiences for passengers in the city and its surrounding areas.
