Guru Ravidas Jayanti 2024: Guru Ravidas, also known as Bhagat Ravidas, is renowned for his significant contributions to the Bhakti Movement. He was a saint, poet, and philosopher who advocated for human rights and equality through his teachings. Guru Ravidas’ profound wisdom and guidance inspired people, leading them toward a righteous path in life. His birth anniversary celebrated as Guru Ravidas Jayanti, is eagerly awaited and observed in the northern parts of India, particularly in states like Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Haryana. This festival serves as a tribute to the revered Guru Ravidas and his enduring legacy of enlightenment and social reform.

Guru Ravidas Jayanti will be observed on February 24. The Purnima Tithi (full moon) will commence at 3:33 PM on February 23 and conclude at 5:59 PM on February 24.

History: Guru Ravidas, known by various names such as Raidas, Rohidas, and Ruhidas, was born in 1377 CE in the village of Seer Govardhanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Despite being born into a humble family, Guru Ravidas dedicated his life to advocating for human rights and equality. He was also a renowned poet, with some of his compositions included in the Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Mystic poet and devoted follower of Lord Krishna, Meera Bai, recognized Guru Ravidas as her spiritual guide.

On this day, people organize Nagarkirtans, sing Gurbani, and conduct special aarti ceremonies. At Shri Guru Ravidass Janam Asthan Mandir in Seer Govardhanpur, Varanasi, a grand ceremony is organized to commemorate the birth anniversary of Guru Ravidas. Devotees from all over the country gather to celebrate the occasion and reflect on the teachings of the revered saint. Many devotees also visit holy sites and take ritual baths in sacred rivers to offer their prayers to Guru Ravidas.
