Real Madrid were left frustrated after a controversial refereeing decision denied them victory in a thrilling 2-2 draw against Valencia at Mestalla.

The La Liga leaders started strong, dominating possession but fell behind against the run of play with two goals in quick succession. Hugo Duro opened the scoring for Valencia in the 27th minute, followed by Artem Dovbyk’s strike two minutes later.

Madrid fought back with Vinicius Jr. scoring twice, once in stoppage time of the first half and again in the 75th minute. However, their hopes for a win were dashed in the dying seconds when Jude Bellingham’s header was disallowed for a controversial offside call by referee Gil Manzano. Replays showed the ball was still in play when the whistle was blown for full-time.

“We are very disappointed with the referee’s decision,” said Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti after the match. “We deserved to win tonight, but unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be.”

Despite the disappointment, the draw keeps Real Madrid at the top of the La Liga table, although they missed the opportunity to extend their lead over Barcelona.
