The Defence Ministry has approved the acquisition of 15 maritime patrol aircraft, according to a recent report.

According to sources cited by ANI, the Defence Ministry has given the green light to a proposal for the procurement of nine maritime surveillance aircraft for the Indian Navy and six maritime patrol aircraft for the Indian Coast Guard.

The plan entails the development of 15 maritime patrol planes, which will be derived from the domestically produced C-295 transport aircraft. This decision is in line with the government’s “Make in India” initiative, aimed at bolstering indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities while fulfilling the nation’s security requirements.

ANI reports that the estimated value of these projects amounts to a substantial ₹29,000 crore.
