Three women Jatra theatre artistes in Odisha tragically lost their lives when their car collided with a tree.

Three stage actresses were killed and three others injured when the SUV they were traveling in crashed into a tree at Ostapur chowk on the Kendrapada-Gandakhia road in Kendrapada district, Odisha.

Police suspect that the driver might have fallen asleep. The deceased were identified as Jyotsnarani Paramanik (28) from Bhograi in Balasore district, Rajalaxmi Rout (29) from Bailashi mouza in Cuttack district, and Babyrani Dash (26) from Sahada village in Bhadrak district.

The women were on their way to Kendrapada bus stand after participating in rehearsals for a play scheduled for Sunday night in Naranapur village. Residents of Naranapur had invited them to perform the play for Mahashivratri on March 8. The driver is suspected to have fallen asleep at the wheel.

One of the deceased, Babyrani Dash (26) from Sahada village in Bhadrak district, had a challenging upbringing and was determined to improve her family’s situation. She started her acting career at 18 and was well-regarded for her role in the TV serial Jhili. She had dreams of making it big in the film industry, but these aspirations were tragically cut short by the accident.

Relatives of the victims, including Bidutya Ranjan Das, brother of Babyrani, and Sagar Paramanik, brother of Jyotsnarani Paramanik (28), expressed shock and sorrow at the loss of their loved ones. Rajalaxmi Rout (29) from Bailashi Mouza in Cuttack district was also among the deceased. She had a passion for acting and was hoping to secure a role in a film after years of performing in jatras, dramas, and TV serials.

The accident has deeply affected the families and communities of the actresses, who were looking forward to sharing their talents and connecting with audiences through their performances.
