Nitish Kumar Reaffirms Commitment to NDA, Labels Past Alliances with RJD a “Mistake” and Vows Never to Return
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar made a major political declaration during a meeting with BJP President JP Nadda on Friday, strongly reaffirming his loyalty to the NDA (National Democratic Alliance). Reflecting on his past decisions, Nitish openly admitted that joining forces with the RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) had been a mistake. “We went with them (RJD) twice. It was a mistake. It won’t happen again. We will never go back to them,” he said.
This clear statement comes as Nitish seeks to put any doubts to rest about his alliance with the BJP. Nitish further emphasized that the BJP and JD(U) (Janata Dal-United) have together achieved significant progress in Bihar. “All the work that has been done in Bihar has been a result of the BJP and JDU working together,” he added.
Rejoining the NDA After a Brief Exit
Nitish Kumar’s statement also reflects his political journey, which saw him rejoin the NDA on January 28. After splitting from the RJD and resigning from his position as Chief Minister, Nitish soon regained his post with the BJP’s support. Following his resignation, he pointed out that while he and his party were working hard, it was the RJD that was taking all the credit. “We worked tirelessly, but others (RJD) were claiming the achievements as their own,” he had remarked at the time.
Nitish’s re-entry into the NDA after less than two years marked his fourth major political shift as Chief Minister. In August 2022, he had parted ways with the BJP, allying with the RJD. However, his return to the NDA signifies a renewed partnership with the BJP.
JP Nadda’s Two-Day Visit to Bihar

After his stop in Patna, Nadda will travel to Bhagalpur, where he will participate in the inauguration of a 200-bed superspecialty hospital. He will then proceed to Gaya, where a similar hospital is set to open. In addition to these key events, Nadda will hold meetings with BJP leaders to discuss the party’s strategy for the state.
Nadda’s Visit to Patna Sahib and Darbhanga AIIMS
On the second day of his visit, JP Nadda will head to Patna Sahib, a significant religious and cultural site in Bihar. He will also visit the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) to review ongoing developments. Later in the day, Nadda will inspect the construction of the new AIIMS in Darbhanga, which is expected to boost healthcare infrastructure in the region. Following this, Nadda will travel to Muzaffarpur before returning to Patna for a core committee meeting with Bihar BJP leaders.
His visit highlights the BJP’s focus on development, healthcare, and strengthening its base in Bihar ahead of upcoming elections.
A Strong Message for the Opposition
In his remarks, Nitish Kumar also took a veiled dig at the opposition. Without naming anyone directly, he pointed out that certain political parties only focus on creating divisions rather than working for development. “Their only objective is to divide and rule. They cannot provide a report of their achievements because they don’t have any,” Nitish said.

Meanwhile, JP Nadda echoed similar sentiments during his speeches, urging the people of Bihar to support leaders who work hard and deliver results. He emphasized that Bihar is on its way to becoming a medical hub and praised the collaborative efforts of the BJP and JD(U) governments in the state.
As Nitish Kumar solidifies his position within the NDA and BJP leaders like JP Nadda continue their focus on development and healthcare, it is clear that the alliance is preparing for the political challenges ahead. The partnership between Nitish and BJP remains strong, signalling their determination to continue leading Bihar towards progress.
